Welcome to the official page for the 2024-2025 O[yes] Media Contest!
High school students across Oregon were invited to participate in our annual O[yes] Media Contest. This contest, now in its 17th year, puts a spotlight on the importance of young worker safety and health. This year’s competition challenged participants to create either a 30- to 90-second video or graphic design that inspires young workers to take the O[yes] online Safety Awareness Training to bolster their knowledge of how to stay safe and healthy while on the job.
This year’s finalists came from high schools around the state: Sherwood High School (Sherwood), Parkrose High School (Portland), Lincoln High School (Portland), Crescent Valley High School (Corvallis), McNary High School (Keizer), McLoughlin High School (Milton-Freewater), Cleveland High School (Portland), and Bend Senior High School (Bend).
The top winners in each category are:
Video category:

Riley Clare, Hazards Attack, Parkrose High School (Portland)

Audrey Finkelstein, O[No], Lincoln High School (Portland)

Ryan Staben, The Bucket, Crescent Valley High School (Corvallis)

Tristan Sexton, O[yes] On Site, McNary High School (Keizer)
My name is Tristan Sexton and I am a student at McNary Highschool. My idea for my contest submission was created partially with inspiration from past winners. I wanted to show the viewers that O[yes] can change how you work for the better. So I created a “before and after” type video that is supposed to represent the effects that O[yes] training has on people. The reason that I entered the contest was to see if my video and stop motion skills were good enough to win a contest. (click to continue reading)
I find that every time I push myself to make a more challenging video I improve in these skills. The hardest part about this was the fact that stop motion takes a long time to create. Every frame(1/5 of a second in this case) takes a minute or two to make. Despite the video being only a minute and a half long it took several hours to create the final product. Finding time to squeeze in this work isn’t always easy.
I was a bit surprised that my video made it this far as my skills since the time I created this have improved. I feel that I could probably improve upon this video in many ways.
